"I hate you Papa!" Maka screams at the top of her lungs. "You bastard!"
Maka runs past Spirit, her womanizing father. Soul was leaning against a wall, anticipating Maka. She grabs his arm and swings him. Soul wasn't expecting Maka to hurl him like she was doing, but he recognizes the way she swings him and transforms into his Death Scythe form.
Maka stops. Then she takes off at full speed back to the balcony Spirit was still at, half-hanging over the edge and screaming, "Papa loves Mama and Maka the most! PAPA LOVES MAMA AND MAKA THE MOST!!!"
Maka steps onto the edge and jumps off of Shibusen's balcony. Spirit freaks out and attempts to cry out for Maka in vain.
Soul sees that Maka wants to fly away, so he manipulates himself into a smaller scythe and Maka spreads her wings.
Soul looks up at his Meister, about to calmly ask her what's the matter, but remains quiet because she is crying.
They land at their apartment and Maka sets Soul against the wall. "Stay here; I'll return shortly," she orders. Soul keeps silent and obeys. In ten minutes, Maka is back with a suit case strapped to her back. "Let's go," she says after locking their house door and posting a note stating that the two of them will not be back for a while.
She grabs Soul; they take of and fly. And fly. And fly.
Asking her what happened would be totally uncool. I wanna know, but I've seen that face before. She would start screaming and run off without me. I guess Maka just needs time to clear her head. Besides, she will tell me if and when she feels ready to talk. Still, she has never fled from Death City because of personal affairs before...
Soul looks up at the moon. Whoa, I didn't realize how long we've been flying. I can feel exhaustion catching up with me...no! I will not stop until Maka says so. Soul wills himself to maintain the same altitude they've been flying at, however Maka finally senses his fatigue and lands in front of a hotel. They walk in.
Soul notices that they are in Russia; a hotel not too far from St. Basil's Cathedral. He walks up to the concierge desk and speaks with the lady at the desk. He books the two of them a single bed penthouse suite on the top floor. They make their way up the stairs, where nobody is at, and into their secluded room.
Soul places the luggage on the bed and unpacks them all into the drawers as Maka hops into the shower. As she showers, Soul thinks to himself, Judging by the clothes she packed we'll be her for a long time. We probably have enough clothes for a month! Soul finishes with the unpacking, and Maka is still in the shower, so he decides to go out and buy some groceries for their medium-sized fridge in their room.
As Soul returns, Maka finally steps out of the shower. Instinctively for no reason, Soul turns his back to her. Good thing too; Maka walks out naked because she didn't grab any clothes with her before taking her shower. Why the hell didn't she just walk out with a towel around her?! Jeez! She slips on her underwear and one of Soul's shirts.
"You can turn around now," she says. Soul spins on his heel and walks over to the fridge and stocks it up. When he is done, he steps outside to give Maka space. He has this feeling that she still is not ready to talk about what occurred.
Unfortunately after a few minutes, he forgets that he is in Russia, and the weather is cold right now, so he goes back inside to find his coat.
He glances at Maka. She is already passed out on the sofa.
"Hey now," Soul whispers so he doesn't disturb Maka's state of peace as he picks her up. "A cool guy like me sleeps on the sofa while the girl gets the bed, baka..."
He never realized how light she is until now.
He walks over to the bed and caresses her under the sheets. He also notices that she has puffy eyes from all the tears she has silently wept today. Her face is still, relieved-looking more than anything.
But Soul can feel his heart speeding up and face flush. So, with great control, he kisses her forehead. "Sweet dreams, Maka." Then Soul sleeps on the sofa.
